Nunapitchuk has made great strides to improve water and sewer service in the village since 1993/94 when the first FTH units were installed as a demonstration project. Since that time some 120 units have been installed virtually eliminating the honeybucket from the community. Numerous other projects were also completed: the old wooden sewage bunkers have been removed and the pits filled in; a new upgraded sanitation boardwalk system has been completed which allows the haul vehicles to service  the homes; the water treatment plant has been upgraded and a water pipeline to the north side has been installed; a new sewage lagoon has been built. The improvements in the village are truly remarkable.
